Sri Lankan nationals who wish to apply for new passports or get the validity of the current passport extended/ data alterations can submit their applications either in person or by mail/courier.  Passports that have been reached the maximum period of 10 years cannot be extended for a further period and needs to be replaced with a new passport as the maximum period of validity of a passport is for 10 years from the date of issue.  Applications for new passports/extend the validity or alteration of data of the current passport etc. should be submitted with the following documents.

(i) Apply for a New passport replacing the current passport used for 10 years or a new     passport due to non availability of visa pages

Passports issued after 13th March 2006 are valid for 10 years and therefore a new passport has to be obtained after the expiry of such passports.  Passports issued prior to 13th March 2006 can be extended to a maximum period of 10 years from the date of issue as these passports were originally issued valid for 05 years only.

The fees could be paid in cash over the counter at the Embassy or deposit / transfer in the Embassy bank account.  If the fee has been deposited in the bank, a copy of the receipt issued by the bank should be attached to the application.  Official receipt will be issued for all the payments.
