Information on visas for Sri Lanka

Vietnamese citizens travelling with diplomatic or official passports are eligible to obtain visas for Sri Lanka on arrival at the port of entry under a reciprocal visa exemption arrangement currently in force between the two countries.
Vietnamese citizens travelling with ordinary passports are required to obtain prior visas from the Sri Lanka Mission in Hanoi or any other Sri Lankan diplomatic representation abroad prior to their arrival in Sri Lanka.

(1)  General requirements for processing applications:

            - Duly perfected visa application. Application form can be downloaded at            
              http://www.immigration.gov.lk/html/online_services/downloads/index.html
              or obtained from this mission by fax or in person.  
            - Passport with validity for at least 3 months beyond the period of stay in Sri Lanka.   
            - Return air ticket (copy can be attached to the application)
            - Visa fee of US$ 45/= or Vietnamese dong equivalent. 

Visa applications are accepted between 9.00 AM to 12.00 noon and passports are returned between 3.00 to 4.00 PM on the same day.

(2)  Business Travel / Attend  Meetings or Conferences

In addition to the requirements at (1) above, the following additional requirements need to be met in order to process an application for business travel:

            - A supporting letter from the company/government institution in Viet Nam where               traveler is employed or represents.
            - A letter of invitation from the sponsoring/partner company in Sri Lanka  (optional)

(3)  Residence Visas or for stay in Sri Lanka for more than three months 

It is suggested that the sponsoring agency or company in Sri Lanka contact the controller of Immigration and Emigration in Sri Lanka and arrange to send the approval for issuance of visa to this Mission. The address of the controller of Immigration and Emigration is:

(4)  Method of payment:

          Applying in person

          Those applying in person at the Embassy could pay the visa fees in cash (US$ or VND) for               which an official receipt would be issued.

          Applying by post/courier

          Those applying for visa by post/courier should arrange to send visa fee preferably in cash           or arrange to remit the fee in US$ or VND through a bank transfer to one of the following           bank accounts of the Embassy together with postal charges. A copy of the deposit slip               should also be sent with the passports.

Those applying visas by mail should contact the consular Division at Tel: 04 –37341894 - 6 during working hours 8.30 a.m. - 4.30 p.m. before the application is sent.

(5)  Other Nationals

    Nationals of countries of the attached list are eligible for visas on arrival up to 30 days at the     port of entry if they are bonafide tourists. However they should posses return air tickets and     sufficient funds to cover their expenses during the period of stay in Sri Lanka.

(6)  Nationals of SAARC Countries 

    Nationals of SAARC countries are eligible for visas on arrival at the port of entry up to 30 days     irrespective whether they are traveling for tourism or business purpose.
